Campaign 2008

Thank you for your generosity during

Campaign 2007

Across Eugene District 4J, students are benefiting from a record $781,462 given during 2007.  Gifts were enough to fund grants at every school on top of their donor-earmarked gifts. An important part of was the Back-to-School Gala at which six district-wide proposals were funded.

Four members of the Bascom family chaired the 2007 Annual Campaign for 4J schools.

"It means a great deal to me to support our schools," says Sarah regarding her role in the campaign.  Adds her mother-in-law, "I'm delighted to pass the torch to the next generation.

Generations

"Excellent schools are one reason we came to Eugene 47 years ago," says former mayor Ruth Bascom, "and they're one reason Eugene remains the outstanding city it is."  She and husband Dr. John Bascom raised six children here.

One of them, Dr. Tom Bascom is a surgeon like his father.  He says, "Helen Hughes, who taught 7th grade math at Roosevelt, and Harry Johnson, who coached the track team at South, were shining lights for me.  They really woke me up and helped set a course to college.

Tom and his wife Sarah are the parents of three members of the next generation, two of whom are old enough to attend Edison Elementary.  Adds Tom, "When I go to my children’s school it brings back vivid memories, though the ceilings seem lower now!"
