Cesar E. Chavez Elementary School

This grant provides monies for buses so students @ Chavez will have he opportunity to explore Lane County. Many of our students do not have the resources to expand their learning outside the classroom. Hands on community activities will enrich the learning of every child at Chavez.

Why is this project important?

With school funding continuing to be reduced, with a student population of over 80% qualifying for free & reduced lunches, our parents cannot afford to pay for buses along with admission fees. We want our kids to have the same experiences and opportunities that other schools and parents provide.

Who and how many will be served?

All 390+ students from grades K-5 would be supported with this grant.

How will you evaluate the success of this project?

Classes will journal their trips through digital photography and writing. These photos will be displayed in the Media Center.

Does this proposal build upon existing programs at your school?

Field trip experiences directly relate to classroom content i.e., a trip to the Public Library (literacy) and Outdoor School (environmental studies).

How will the funds be spent?

Buses for in and out of town trips to Aquarium and Outdoor School.
