Sound System and Xylophone Repair
Cesar Chavez Elementary, shared with Family School
Purchase a quality sound system for teaching
music which would include a dual tape deck, a multi-disk CD player, an
amplifier, and speakers. Repair xylophones which are old, but very usable with some repair. Two bass xylophones need lost bars replaced and several instruments need the rubber tubing replaced.
Why is this project important?
This project is important to: 1) provide the children with quality sound in their music classes and to 2) repair instruments to playing condition. Who, and how many, will be served? All of the students (490) at Cesar Chavez and Family School will be served by these purchases. Future students will also benefit. How will you evaluate the success of this project? The children will have more instruments to play and some will produce a better sound. They will hear music from a quality sound system. Also, the CD changer will prolong the life of the CDs and less instruction time will be spent changing CDs. Does this proposal build upon existing programs at your school? Yes, Cesar Chavez has a music teacher who teaches music five days a week. The CDÇs that were purchased as part of the music curriculum are used. The instruments are also used frequently in the music classes. How funds will be spent? Purchase of sound system and repair of xylophones
