Education Outside our Four Walls

Family Elementary School

Provide monies for buses so Family School will be able to enhance & broaden our students' educational experiences. Without the use of private cars due to existing laws regarding child safety seats, we are no longer able to provide students with field trips that are not accessible via the city bus. Our curriculum relies heavily on community & real world experiences & resources. Being able to access these opportunities outside the 4 walls of our classrooms allows us to continue to support our rich curriculum.

Why is this project important?

With school funding continuing to be reduced, with a student population of over 50% qualifying for free & reduced lunches, our parents cannot afford to pay for buses along with admission fees. Without this grant we will be severely limited in accessing educational opportunities outside of our classrooms.

Who and how many will be served?

All 110 students in Family School grades 1 through 5 will be served through this grant.

How will you evaluate the success of this project?

Having kids study in their classrooms: scientific concepts, artists and techniques, the City of Eugene and their services, career education and environmental issues then culminating in field trips to actually see & experience what they have been studying is a proven formula for successful learning & directly relates what they've learned to the real world.

Does this proposal build upon existing programs at your school?

This proposal builds on Family School's emphasis of teaching our students through community experiences & resources.

How will the funds be spent?

Two out of town bus trips to OMSI and Portland Art Museum.

Did You Know?

Many Eugene school children would not get to see the great OMSI museum in Portland without EEF grants like this one.
