Graphing Calculators
Sheldon High School The math curriculum at Sheldon High School requires the use of a calculator with graphing capabilities for all math classes at or above Advanced Algebra. This can be a hardship for some families, and the math department desires to have loaners available to students who need them. Why is this project important? All students deserve a complete education. The use of graphing calculator technology is a key component of that education. This project will ensure that all students have access to a graphing calculator during their time at Sheldon. Who, and how many, will be served? Students who cannot afford the $80 cost of the calculator will be served. We have 546 students at Sheldon enrolled in math classes at or above Advanced Algebra this year. The math department estimates that 5 students per semester will be served by this project. How will you evaluate the success of this project? We will know that the project is successful when students take advantage of our offer. Does this proposal build upon existing programs at your school? Yes, our one-year-old books and curriculum rely on the use of technologies involving graphing capabilities. How will the funds be spent? 5 calculators.
