Giving Opportunities

Schools benefit from grants, earmarked gifts and endowment earnings.

Grants

Unrestricted gifts are used to make annual grants.  Also going into this grant-making fund is 5% of every gift earmarked for a specific program or school, which means every gift supports students across the district.  (None of your earmarked gift goes to pay overhead expenses.)

Grants fulfill requests made by schools.  They are made to all schools, targeting especially schools and student populations of higher need.

Earmarked Gifts

Gifts restricted to a specific program or school are transferred quarterly.  Gifts earmarked for each school are allocated by the school’s site council (honoring additional restrictions, if any).  Gifts earmarked for a district program are allocated by the appropriate administrator.

Endowment Earnings

Donors can build up the District 4J Endowment Fund for priorities identified by the district, the Nathan Dickman Memorial Music Fund for middle school music, and the Margaret Nichols Endowment Fund for the urgent needs of children.

Earnings from these endowments are paid out annually.

Did You Know What '4J' means?

The Eugene district was the 4th one founded in Lane County (the first was in Pleasant Hill).  Then later it was joined with another district and renamed 4J.
